PROLOGUE

The moon reflected on the meeting point of two rivers— the Alaknanda and the Bhagirathi turning the waters silver beneath the night sky.

And on the quiet riverbank of Devprayag, a girl sat alone.

Yashwika.

She picked up her phone and called her sister.

The call connected.

“Hello?”

“Di…”

“What happened, Yashwika?”

“You remember Sia’s brother?”

There was a pause.

“Yes. Why?”

“I… I think I love him.”

Silence.

Then—

“Are you crazy, Yashwika?”

“What?”

“Do you even know who he is?”

Her heart began beating faster.

“What do you mean?”

“He is your family’s biggest rival.”

The world around her seemed to go silent.

“What?”

“You heard me. His family and ours have been enemies for years.”

Yashvika couldn't breathe.

“No… you're lying.”

“I wish I were.”

Her sister's voice softened.

“He was using you, Yashwika. It was all part of the rivalry.”

The phone slipped slightly from Yashwika's hand.

Using her.

Those two words echoed through her mind.

Every smile.

Every conversation.

Every moment she had spent with him.

Was it all a lie?

She stared at the river ahead, tears falling endlessly.

She had loved him so innocently.

So completely.

And he had known from the beginning that she was the daughter of the family he was supposed to hate.

She didn't know how long she sat there.

She only knew that she wanted to disappear from the world for a while.

Then her phone began ringing again.

His name flashed across the screen.

She stared at it.

Once.

Twice.

Again.

She couldn't answer.

Not anymore.

She turned the phone face down and buried her face in her hands.

What she didn't know was that he was already on his way to her.

He had traced her location.

He knew exactly where she was.

And he was coming.

For her.

Forty-five minutes later, the sound of an approaching vehicle broke the silence of the riverbank.

Yashwika slowly lifted her tearful eyes.

And there he was.

Walking toward her.

The same man she had loved.

The same man she now believed had destroyed her.

He stopped in front of her.

“Sitara.”

She stood abruptly.

“Don't.”

He frowned.

“What happened?”

“You know exactly what happened!”

Her voice trembled with anger.

“You used me.”

His expression hardened.

“What?”

“You knew who I was.”

Silence.

“You knew our families were enemies, didn't you?”

His jaw tightened.

She slapped him.

The sound echoed through the quiet night.

He didn't move.

She stared at him, tears filling her eyes.

“Why?”

He looked at her for a long moment.

Then, quietly—

“You don't believe in me?”

She shook her head.

“No.”

Something changed in his eyes.

He looked toward the river, then back at her.

“If you won't believe my words…”

He held out his hand.

A tiny drop of blood fell onto his palm.

Yashwika stared at him, confused.

He stepped closer.

“Then believe this.”

Before she could understand what he meant, he touched his blood to the parting of her hair.

Her eyes widened.

“What are you doing?”

He turned toward the nearby priest.

“Pandit.”

The priest looked at them.

“Prepare for the wedding, Mantra padhna chalu kar.”

Yashwika froze.

“What?”

He looked back at her.

She shook her head immediately.

“No. I'm not marrying you.”

“You are.”

“No!”

“You think I'm using you.”

His voice remained dangerously calm.

“I'm not.”

“Then let me go!”

His gaze didn't leave hers.

“I won't.”

Her heart pounded.

“You can't force me.”

He stepped closer, his voice dropping to a whisper only she could hear.

“You can hate me.”

A pause.

“You can blame me.”

His eyes held hers.

“But you are not walking away from me.”

Behind them, the Alaknanda and Bhagirathi continued to merge beneath the moonlight.

Two rivers becoming one.

While two enemies— were about to become something neither of their families had ever imagined.
